Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Texters is an Android SMS and MMS messaging application (package name com.texters.app). "We", "our", and "us" refer to the individual developer of this application.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All data created or accessed by Texters is stored exclusively on your device. We do not operate any servers that receive your personal data. The following information is accessed or stored locally:

• SMS and MMS messages — read from and written to the Android system SMS/MMS content provider. This data never leaves your device through our app.
• Contact names and phone numbers — read from your device's contacts to display sender names. This data is never collected or transmitted.
• Media attachments — images you attach to MMS messages are temporarily cached in the app's private storage folder and deleted after sending.
• Drafts and settings — message drafts, theme preferences, scheduled messages, and notification settings are stored in the app's local database and shared preferences.
• Backups — if you use the backup feature, a backup file is saved to your device's local storage. We have no access to these files.

3. Permissions We Request and Why

• READ_SMS, WRITE_SMS, SEND_SMS, RECEIVE_SMS — required to function as a default SMS application: reading your message history, saving incoming messages, and sending new ones.
• RECEIVE_MMS, READ_MMS — required to receive and display MMS (multimedia) messages.
• READ_CONTACTS — used to display contact names alongside phone numbers in conversations.
• READ_MEDIA_IMAGES — used to let you select images from your gallery to attach to MMS messages.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS — used to show notifications for incoming messages (Android 13+).
• VIBRATE — used for notification vibration.
• RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — used to reschedule any pending scheduled messages after your device restarts.
• SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM — used to deliver scheduled messages at the exact time you specified.
• READ_PHONE_STATE — used to detect active SIM cards so you can choose which SIM to send from on dual-SIM devices.

4. Third-Party Services

Texters uses the following third-party services provided by Google. Each service operates under Google's Privacy Policy.

Firebase Crashlytics

We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive anonymous crash reports when the app encounters an unexpected error. Crashlytics collects:

• Stack traces and crash logs
• Device model, OS version, and app version
• A random installation UUID (not linked to your identity)

Crashlytics does not collect your messages, contact names, phone numbers, or any message content. Crash reports contain no personally identifiable information.

Firebase Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used in aggregate — for example, how often users schedule messages or change the theme. Analytics collects:

• Anonymous feature usage events (e.g. "message sent", "theme changed")
• Device type, OS version, and app version
• Country-level location (not precise location)

Analytics does not collect message content, contact information, or phone numbers. All data is aggregated and anonymous. You can opt out of analytics data collection through your device's Google account settings under Data & privacy → Ad settings.

5. Data We Do Not Collect

We explicitly do not collect:

• The content of any SMS or MMS message
• Contact names or phone numbers
• Your name, email address, or any account information
• Precise location
• Photos or media you send or receive
• Financial or payment information

We do not create user accounts, and there are no Texters servers that store your personal data.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for marketing or commercial purposes. The only data that leaves your device is the anonymous diagnostic data described in Section 4 above, sent directly to Google's Firebase infrastructure.

7. Data Retention

All message data is stored in the Android system SMS/MMS database and remains on your device until you delete it. Uninstalling Texters removes the app's local database (drafts, scheduled messages, settings) but does not delete your SMS/MMS message history — that is managed by Android and remains accessible to any default SMS app you install next.

Firebase Crashlytics retains crash data for 90 days. Firebase Analytics retains event data for 14 months by default.

8. Children's Privacy

Texters is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Security

Since Texters stores data only on your device, the security of your messages depends on your device's own security (screen lock, encryption). We recommend keeping your device's OS up to date and using a screen lock. Communication with Firebase services is encrypted in transit using TLS.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
