Overview
Simple Compass ("we", "our", or "the app") is a utility application that uses your device's built-in magnetometer and accelerometer sensors to display your current heading. We are committed to being transparent about how the app works and what data, if any, is collected.
Information We Do Not Collect
The following data is never collected or transmitted:
- Your location or GPS coordinates
- Sensor readings (magnetometer, accelerometer)
- Device identifiers or hardware information
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Photos, contacts, or any other personal data
Sensor Usage
Simple Compass uses the following hardware sensors on your device:
- Magnetometer — to detect magnetic north and calculate your heading
- Accelerometer — to determine device orientation and apply tilt correction
All sensor data is processed locally on your device in real time and is never stored, logged, or transmitted to any server.
Analytics (Firebase)
Simple Compass uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data. This helps us understand how the app is used and improve the experience. The following anonymous events are tracked:
- App opens and session duration
- Direction changes (e.g. "North", "East") — not your actual location
- Compass accuracy level events (low, medium, high)
- Whether the device is missing a required sensor
Firebase Analytics data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. No data is linked to your identity. You can learn more at policies.google.com/privacy.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Simple Compass displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use anonymous identifiers to serve relevant ads. This may include:
- Advertising ID (resettable in your device settings)
- General device information (OS version, screen size)
- Approximate location based on IP address (country/region level)
We do not control the data collected by AdMob. Ad personalisation is managed by Google and subject to their policies. You can opt out of personalised ads at any time:
- On Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID or opt out of Ads Personalisation
- Online: adssettings.google.com

Permissions
Simple Compass requests no runtime permissions. Sensor access on Android does not require user permission. The app does not request access to your location, camera, contacts, storage, or microphone.
Children's Privacy
Simple Compass does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The app contains third-party advertising (Google AdMob) which may not be directed to children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
